Poem: "Broken Heart" -Gray N. Green

“Broken Heart” by Gray N. Green is a raw and introspective poem that explores the ache of unreciprocated love and the quiet strength it takes to heal. Through vivid imagery—shards of a heart at someone’s feet, walls rebuilt with titanium and lead—the poem reflects on emotional resilience, self-repair, and the lingering presence of someone who no longer deserves space in one’s heart. Poignant and powerful, this piece speaks to anyone who’s ever had to put themselves back together, one breath at a time.

WRITTENWORKPOEMS

Thinking of you—

Day and night.

Seeing you,

The opposite of me.

I fell for you without knowing,

You captured my feelings

In a rusted cage—

Only to play with them.

A stupid little game.

You don’t deserve my time,

Yet I give it to you.

My heart breaks

Every time I see you.

At your feet lie shards of my heart,

with iron shoes, you stomp on them,

Stomping out the last of me.

Yet still, I pick myself up—

Gathering my broken heart like shattered glass,

Salvaging what I can

Through this pain.

I glue my heart back together.

I sew my scars shut.

Rebuilding my walls—

Tighter and tighter

With every breath.

Walls of titanium,

Lined with lead.

Impenetrable.

Yet I sit here—

Still writing to you.
